Wajir is one of the very dry areas of Kenya. Water is a scarce resource and sustainability of water infrastructure is key. If water points break down it immediately leads to a crisis. People may have to walk for 20 km or more to get access to water elsewhere. The problem is often being addressed by trucking in water from very far. Yet this is very expensive and not sustainable. Wajir water company now has 8 prepaid water kiosks and got support for that from Oxfam.
